Mallorca’s picnic areas are a great option for a family day outdoors. Scattered across the island, these spaces in natural surroundings offer somewhere to enjoy a walk, spend a few hours with the children and, in many cases, have a barbecue, known locally as a torrada.
Some have little more than tables and benches, while others offer built-in barbecue facilities, toilets, children’s play areas, parking and other amenities. However, fires are not permitted everywhere, so it is worth checking what is available before loading the car with firewood and food 😄.
In this guide, we have brought together Mallorca’s main picnic areas, indicating which have barbecue facilities and sharing other useful details to help you plan your visit. The information on facilities comes from the Balearic Government’s official list of recreation areas.
When can you have a barbecue in Mallorca?
The use of built-in barbecue facilities in Mallorca’s picnic areas depends on the time of year and forest fire prevention measures.
As a general rule, the designated barbecue facilities in Mallorca’s picnic areas may be used from 16 October to 30 April, subject to any restrictions in force. Their use is prohibited from 1 May to 15 October, inclusive.
This means that even if a picnic area has barbecue facilities, you cannot necessarily use them at any time of year.
Important: these are the general dates, but restrictions may change if the fire risk remains high or exceptional measures are introduced. Before planning a barbecue, check the Balearic Government’s daily Alerta Foc map and guidance for Mallorca. Always follow local signs and any specific prohibitions at your chosen picnic area.
What facilities do Mallorca’s picnic areas offer?
Picnic areas can be found across Mallorca. Depending on where you go, you might find a simple spot surrounded by nature or a well-equipped area where you can comfortably spend several hours.
