The walk around Cúber reservoir is an easy outing with young children. What stands out most is the setting, at the foot of Puig Major in the Serra de Tramuntana, surrounded by some of Mallorca’s most recognisable mountain scenery. We particularly like it when there’s snow on the mountains.
It’s a circular walk of no more than two hours at a child’s pace. The hardest part may well be finding somewhere to park. At Turisme Petit we usually suggest setting off early to get there before the car parks fill up, although we know that’s easier said than done when you have children.
Where the Cúber reservoir walk starts

We start at kilometre 33.8 on the road from Sóller towards Pollença.
There’s a small car park at the reservoir entrance. A little farther up the road is the sa Font des Noguer picnic area, with parking, benches and built-in barbecues.
There’s another small car park just before the entrance, from which we walk a short stretch along the road to the start.
We set off towards the dam along the paved stretch. This part is suitable for a pushchair if we’re only doing the first section. The full walk follows the path around the reservoir, passing close to Refugi de Cúber, where there are often people about.

The route continues behind the hut and crosses a small stream. Depending on the time of year, there may be water in it, and we can step across the stones if the flow allows.
Once across, we start back along the other side of the reservoir, with a different view of the surrounding mountains.
We often see donkeys and sheep on this walk and, if we’re lucky, Mallorcan cows. It depends on what time we go.

Gorg Blau, the other reservoir nearby
To finish the outing, we recommend driving to the other reservoir, Gorg Blau.
It’s about four minutes from Cúber by car along the same road. It has a greater capacity than Cúber, and both reservoirs help supply water to Palma and the surrounding area.
There’s also a mountain hut and a picnic area with a large car park.
