Finding somewhere to camp legally in Mallorca is not always straightforward. Compared with other regions, the island has very few authorised places to pitch a tent, and many visitors are unaware of the restrictions on wild camping.
This guide brings together a selection of camping areas in Mallorca, from sites managed by IBANAT to facilities mainly intended for groups. We explain their facilities, how to request a booking and what to check before planning your stay.
Places are limited, so booking ahead is advisable, especially in spring, at weekends and over public holiday periods.
Important: do not assume that you can pitch a tent or sleep outdoors on a beach or in a natural area without permission. Use authorised sites and check the rules and any permits required for your chosen location. Below, we explain the restrictions and the available alternatives.
Is wild camping allowed in Mallorca?
You should not plan a wild camping trip in Mallorca on the assumption that you can pitch a tent wherever you choose. Use designated camping areas or obtain the permissions required for the specific location.
Beaches, coves, public estates, mountains and other natural areas are not automatically available for camping, even if people have traditionally used them for overnight stays.
Llucalcari is a well-known example of somewhere visitors should not treat as an authorised camping area.
In protected natural areas, legislation including Balearic Law 5/2005 on the conservation of environmentally significant spaces (LECO) and the rules for each area regulate camping, bivouacking and overnight stays outdoors. These activities may require prior authorisation. Sleeping without a tent does not automatically make an overnight stay permissible.
It also helps to distinguish between a few terms:
- Wild camping: pitching a tent outside a designated camping area.
- Bivouacking: spending the night outdoors without pitching a tent. This is also regulated, so check the rules and any authorisation required for the location.
- Commercial campsite: a licensed tourist accommodation business with pitches and facilities.
- Designated camping area: an authorised space for pitching tents, usually managed by a public authority or a private organisation.
For a straightforward overnight stay outdoors, we recommend booking one of the authorised camping areas below and following its conditions of use.
Camping areas in Mallorca

This selection includes camping areas available to individuals, families or groups through a booking or authorisation process. Check each listing carefully, as some facilities are specifically intended for organised groups.
Sa Font Coberta (Lluc, Escorca)
Beside Lluc Sanctuary, Sa Font Coberta is Mallorca’s best-known camping area and one of the most suitable options for families trying camping for the first time. Its location makes it easy to combine your stay with walks in the Serra de Tramuntana and make use of the services around Lluc.
- Capacity: 200 people.
- Price: published rate of €5 per person per night. Check the current tariff and age-related exemptions when booking.
- Managed by: IBANAT.
- Location: beside the car park, at the end of the Camí Vell de Lluc.
- Facilities: tables, barbecue facilities, toilets, hot and cold showers, a non-drinking water point and an area adapted for people with reduced mobility. Parking is paid, with reduced resident rates. There is also a picnic area nearby. Barbecue use is subject to seasonal restrictions and fire prevention measures.
- Pets: not permitted; guide dogs are excepted under IBANAT’s published rules.
- Booking: required through the IBANAT website.
- Information: +34 971 177 652, Monday to Friday from 10 am to 2 pm.
Our view: this is our first choice for families with young children, thanks to its facilities, easy access and the range of walks and places to explore around Lluc.
Es Pixarells (Escorca)
On the public estate of Menut, beside the road between Lluc and Pollença, Es Pixarells is one of Mallorca’s quieter camping areas. Surrounded by woodland in the heart of the Serra de Tramuntana, it suits visitors looking for natural surroundings and a more peaceful setting than Lluc.
- Capacity: 50 people.
- Price: published rate of €5 per person per night. Check the current tariff and age-related exemptions when booking.
- Managed by: IBANAT.
- Location: Ma-10 road between Lluc and Pollença, km 19, on the public estate of Menut.
- Facilities: tables, barbecue facilities, toilets, showers and a non-drinking water point.
Our view: with space for just 50 people, it offers a quieter atmosphere than some of the island’s larger camping areas. It is a good option for families who enjoy walking and want to spend a few days in nature. Book ahead, particularly in spring and at weekends.
Marjanor (Lluc, Escorca)
Beside Lluc’s football pitch, Marjanor is one of Mallorca’s larger camping areas. Its proximity to Lluc Sanctuary makes it a useful base for exploring the Serra de Tramuntana, walking and discovering some of the island’s most impressive mountain scenery.
- Capacity: 200 people.
- Price: published rate of €5 per person per night. Check the current tariff and age-related exemptions when booking.
- Managed by: IBANAT.
- Location: Ma-2140 road, km 1, beside Lluc’s football pitch.
- Facilities: tables, barbecue facilities, toilets, showers and a non-drinking water point. Barbecue use is subject to seasonal restrictions and fire prevention measures.
- Pets: not permitted; guide dogs are excepted under IBANAT’s published rules.
- Booking: required through the IBANAT website.
- Important: IBANAT recommends this area for groups of more than 25 people.
- Information: +34 971 177 652, Monday to Friday from 10 am to 2 pm.
Our view: its capacity and location beside Lluc make it particularly suitable for larger groups. For a family travelling independently, we would look at Sa Font Coberta or Es Pixarells first.
Which IBANAT camping area should you choose?
All three IBANAT camping areas are around Lluc, but each offers a different experience. This quick comparison can help you choose.
| If you want… | We suggest… | Why? |
|---|---|---|
| A convenient option for families | Sa Font Coberta | Good facilities and a location very close to Lluc Sanctuary. |
| A quieter setting | Es Pixarells | Space for just 50 people, surrounded by woodland. |
| More capacity for a large group | Marjanor | Space for 200 people; IBANAT recommends it for groups of more than 25. |
La Trapa (Andratx)
In the Serra de Tramuntana, La Trapa offers a particularly remote camping experience. Its isolation and very basic facilities mean that we would not recommend it for families with young children or visitors without mountain experience.
The estate has a small area where controlled camping is permitted with prior authorisation. It is approximately 30 metres from the buildings, along the path towards the viewpoint, and can accommodate only a limited number of tents and people.
- Capacity: limited and subject to the authorisation conditions. Check the permitted number of people and tents when applying.
- Price: free, with prior authorisation.
- Managed by: GOB.
- Location: approximately 90 minutes on foot from Sant Elm.
- Facilities: a dry toilet only. There are no conventional toilets, showers, drinking water or mobile reception. All rubbish must be taken away at the end of your stay.
- Pets: check the current authorisation conditions.
- Booking: prior authorisation is required from both GOB and the Balearic Government’s department responsible for the natural environment. See the authorisation procedure.
- Authorisation: first request GOB’s permission at least 15 days in advance, and also apply for the Balearic Government’s authorisation. Permission from GOB does not replace the administrative authorisation.
- Fires: not permitted at any time of year.
Our view: this is a distinctive option for people who want to camp in natural surroundings and are comfortable in the mountains. However, the basic facilities and walking access mean that other camping areas are more suitable for most families with children.
Campament Hipocampo (Cales de Mallorca)
In Espinagar, near Cales de Mallorca, Centro Juvenil Hipocampo offers an alternative to conventional camping areas. Although it has space for tents, it is a youth centre rather than a commercial campsite, with shared rooms and a range of sports and leisure facilities.
- Capacity: tent camping and accommodation in shared rooms. Confirm the available capacity with the centre.
- Price: check current rates when booking.
- Managed by: Centro Juvenil Hipocampo.
- Location: Camí es Domingos Vells, 40, Espinagar, approximately 1.2 km from Cala Domingos and Cala Tropicana.
- Facilities: toilets, showers, dining room, swimming pool, extensive green spaces, sports facilities, parking and designated areas for tents.
- Caravans and motorhomes: not permitted.
- Booking: via WhatsApp or by contacting Centro Juvenil Hipocampo directly.
Our view: we have not visited this centre, and we have found it difficult to get in touch on previous occasions. Its facilities may make it an option for families and groups, provided the centre confirms availability and conditions.
The combination of tent camping, shared rooms, a swimming pool and sports facilities may appeal to groups looking for more than a basic camping area. Confirm which facilities are included and available during your intended stay.

Casal Son Serra de Marina
Casal de Son Serra de Marina is primarily designed for groups, schools, associations and organisations looking to combine outdoor activities with accommodation in natural surroundings. Alongside its hostel accommodation, it has a large camping area a short distance from Son Serra de Marina beach.
- Capacity: camping for groups of 10 to 120 people. The overnight hostel accommodation accepts groups of 18 to 40 people, according to the conditions published on its website.
- Price: check current rates when booking.
- Managed by: Casal de Son Serra de Marina.
- Location: between Can Picafort and Son Serra de Marina, with access near the beach by the torrent.
- Facilities: an equipped kitchen, toilets, showers, dining room, outdoor areas and space for activities. Check which facilities are included in your booking.
- Booking: submit an enquiry through the official website. The website lists prices and booking options for camping, overnight hostel accommodation and daytime use.
- Important: bookings are mainly intended for groups, with minimum group sizes depending on the option selected.
Our view: its layout and facilities make it particularly suitable for camps, associations and organised groups. Families or couples travelling independently should look first at Sa Font Coberta or Es Pixarells, or ask Hipocampo whether it can accommodate them.
La Victòria camp (Alcúdia)

On the La Victòria peninsula in northern Mallorca, this camp lies within a protected natural landscape designated as an Area of Special Natural Interest (ANEI). Surrounded by pine woodland and close to S’Illot beach, it is well placed for groups combining outdoor activities, walking and time by the sea.
The camp and the youth hostel are separate facilities. The hostel remains closed for renovation, while the camp has its own group booking procedure.
- Capacity: check the available capacity with IBJOVE.
- Price: check current rates when booking.
- Managed by: IBJOVE, Balearic Government.
- Location: Camí de la Victòria, Alcúdia.
- Facilities: dining room, covered toilet facilities, a large camping area with covered spaces, communal areas, Wi-Fi, two sports courts, a climbing wall, archery facilities and extensive outdoor activity areas.
- Booking: apply in advance through IBJOVE’s youth facilities network.
- Important: individual bookings are not accepted. Check group conditions and availability with IBJOVE.
Our view: beyond its facilities, the camp’s main attraction is its location. You can walk to S’Illot beach and explore the route to La Victòria Hermitage, two lovely places in northern Mallorca. For groups looking to combine nature, walking and the coast, it is an appealing setting.
Cases Quarter de Betlem
Beside the public estate of Betlem and close to the Llevant Peninsula Natural Park, Cases Quarter de Betlem is an option for groups seeking a few days in natural surroundings in the Artà area of north-eastern Mallorca.
- Capacity: up to 80 people in the camping area.
- Price: €5 per person per day, with a minimum group of 10. A deposit is required and returned after the condition of the facilities has been checked.
- Managed by: Artà Town Council.
- Location: on the road from Colònia de Sant Pere to Betlem.
- Facilities: toilets and washing facilities with hot water, a kitchen without equipment or gas, a fridge and freezer, vehicle access and a basic shelter without mattresses.
- Booking: apply in advance to Artà Town Council using the camping application form.
- Important: applications must be submitted at least one week and no more than two months before the intended stay.
Our view: this is an interesting alternative for groups exploring a quieter part of Mallorca. Alongside camping, the surrounding area offers walks in and around the Llevant Peninsula Natural Park and places to visit such as Betlem Hermitage.
